Norway: Senja Island – Exploring the Island
Senja is the second largest island in Norway, located in the northern part of the country near the 70th parallel (so I am well above the Arctic Circle). It is often called Norway in miniature, since it has all the terrains that the parent country has – steep mountains and fjords riddle the western shores, while the east is flatter with pine forests. Driving around the windy coastline you get incredible scenery of beaches, rugged cliffs and mountains, snow-covered meadows and rivers, and unbelievable northern sunlight (the sun still doesn’t rise very high above the horizon). Oh, and it’s cold, especially right after Africa!
