Okinawa: Nakagasuku Castle
And one more 14th century ancient imperial castle from the Ryukyu kingdom (there are about 10 in Okinawa, and I visited 3, all UNESCO). Nakagasuku castle also has prominent cliff top location with views toward ocean and very steep walls making this particular castle absolutely impregnable. This exemplifies a gusuku castle structure – very thick walls protecting inner courtyards of various elevation, one higher then the other. You can drive a car on these walls! The rocks of the walls are all coverages with moss, lichens, and plants.
