Oman: Al Hazm Fort
And yet another Omani fort – Al Hazm Fort. This one was built in 1708 by Imam Sultan bin Saif II as his main residence. The imposing structure is square with two large round towers in two corners. Inside, there are living quarters, a mosque, a medressa, and even horse stables – technically, it’s more of a castle then a fortress, and it never saw any military action. The construction of the castle is unique among other Omani forts s in the fact that no wood was used in the construction of its ceilings. However, the wooden doors are quite intricately carved.
