Portugal: Algar de Benagil

Benagil Cave aka Algar de Benagil is by far the most photographed and popular sea cave and coastal attraction along the spectacular Algarve coast. It is a massive sea cave accessible only by water with its ceiling fallen in creating an absolutely surreal skylight. Being so popular, it is a total human zoo to get here and see it. You start at a nearby packed beach from which you depart on a one hour long boat trip to the cave and along the coast. The boats go into the cave a couple times – and it’s ultra packed with people inside as well. Some get here by kayaking, which seems more then just an adventure as the sea is usually very rough with strong currents. Crowds notwithstanding, the grotto doesn’t fail to impress, especially if you come during the midday when the sun is at the highest and hits the beach through the skylight opening. Besides the Algar de Benagil, you get to see 8 more sea caves during the boat ride.
