Portugal: Praia de Faro
Praia de Faro aka Faro Beach is one of the most famous in Algarve – a vast expanse of perfect beach on a barrier island off Faro. It’s nearly five km long and access is via a narrow single one way bridge that crosses tidal marshlands. The sand is soft and golden, the waves are gentle, and given the length of the beach – it’s fairly uncrowded despite the proximity to the main international airport in southern Portugal. Right next to the beach are plenty of seafood restaurants and bars. The opposite side of the barrier island is also quite interesting at low tide when perhaps millions of crabs come out.
