Portugal: West Coast Algarve Beaches

Between Ponta do Castello in the south and Praia da Bordeira lies an absolutely stunning piece of the wild western Alrarve coast accessible by a dirt road with about a dozen viewpoints of cliffs and seascapes. It’s one incredible panorama after another. The coastal gravel and sand road is called Estrada da Praia and is probably the best drive in Algarve hands down (doable in a regular car). At the Pinta do Castello, you get to see ruins of the 12th century Islamic fishermen settlements. Further up are several headlands with cliffs dropping vertically into the ocean. And finally you arrive at a massive Praia do Bardeira with its golden sand and coastal wildflowers everywhere .
