Reunion: Cirque de Mafate
Cirque de Mafata is the second of the three incredible mountain cirques on Reunion. Seeing it from the Maido viewpoint high on the rim was like being in The Lord of the Rings set – a massive landscape of mountains and villages down below in the green all shrouded in clouds and fog moving fast across the cirque. It was surreal – one moment you are standing in a complete milky way of thick clouds, and then the next moment an unbelievable panorama opens up thousands of feet below you underneath the precipitous cliffs.
