Roatan: Daniel Johnson’s Monkey & Sloth Hangout

Another animal reserve on Roatan is Daniel Johnson’s Monkey and Sloth Hang Out. Here you can interact and hold Honduran mammals like sloths, capuchin monkeys, and howler monkey (the latter are aggressive so you can watch only). You can see sloths banking in the trees and one can hang on you – adorable. The capuchins are the most playful, but you have to leave everything in storage – hats, glasses, wallets. All three mammal species are native to Honduras but not to Roatan and are here mostly as rescues from poachers and pets. You can also hang out and interact with macaws and parrots at Daniel Johnson’s Monkey and Sloth Hang Out. Macaws are super spectacular and massive, eager to sit on your shoulder and play with shiny glasses. Green parrots, actually endemic on the island, and equally inquisitive.
