Sakhalin: Spotted Seals at Lake Busse
Lake Busse is all about oysters but it’s also a fantastic place to observe spotted seals. Spotted seal at Pacific Ocean animals and have a relatively small range in the water around westernmost Russia and Sea of Japan. Hunting on fish entering Lake Busse through a narrow straight, these cute spotted pinnipeds were very inquisitive, popping their heads out of the water and staring at you (perhaps even waving at you underwater). Many would also show off their backswim abilities exposing their brilliant spotted belly furs. While not endangered, their global population is dwarf compared with other seal species.
