Saudi Arabia: Al Ahsa – Al Qarah Hill
But the most spectacular site within the Al Ahsa Oasis is the Al Qarah Hill, a natural attraction of limestone pillars, caves, and slot canyons. The caves are a mix of limestone, sandstone and marlstone. Most of the caves were formed from water erosion, similar to the runoff of flash floods in slot canyons. The caves are quite interesting and photogenic, but the whole place feels like a tourist trap, with a museum “Land of Civilizations” without any real exhibits, pseudo-photographers getting in your way, and rather annoying staff and rules taking the whole experience into a slightly negative territory.
