Saudi Arabia: Saudi Arabia Food Recap

Saudi food is pretty bad, it is a junkified version of American fast food – seemingly everyone eats crappy burgers and fast food sandwiches. We tried to avoid all of that and seek out authentic Arabic food – the result was a mixed blessing with a total overload of rice – loads and loads of clogging rice with various meats. We had camel, goat, lamb, chicken, beef. In the south – fish was awesome, and Yemeni influenced dishes were equally great. And we got totally hooked on the Arabic coffee (a completely different drink from the Turkish coffee) with entire dates and halva ceremony! Riyadh has a lot of upscale restaurants offering delectable Arabic food. From mezzeh appetizers to to main dishes to freshly squeezed lime juice and Arabic coffee – it was fantastic. Alcohol is illegal.
