Senegal: Dakar – Mosque of the Divinity

One of the most beautiful spots in Dakar is the Mosque of the Divinity, right on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean with a spectacular coastline all around and a beach full of traditional fishing boats. The mosque was built in 1997 with two tall minarets rising 45 meters. The idea for the mosque was born in 1873 when a local holy man Mohamed Gorgui Seyni Guèye had a dream of a mosque on a sacred site on the beach in the middle of ancient fishing village of Ouakam. The mosque was designed by architect Cheikh Ngom, blending traditional Islamic elements with the modern architecture.
