Slovenia: Celje

Celje is one of the oldest towns in Slovenia, a settlement existed here in pre-Roman times and then became Civitas Celeia under Roman Empire. In the Middle Ages, Celje was the center of the only Slovenian state that had managed to maintain the complete independence. The old town has a lot of perfectly preserved old buildings, medieval stone houses, cobblestone streets, and several spectacular churches. The town is overlooked by a spectacular fortress – the largest in Slovenia.
