Socotra: Archer Beach & Dunes
Massive white sand dunes form at the foot of the mountain escarpment that rises behind the Arher Beach almost vertically straight to over 2000ft. The dunes are spectacular from afar, but exploring and climbing them up close was the real adventure. Some parts of the dunes form elaborate sand castle like some mysterious fairy tale towns from the Lord of the Rings. Also, in some place the sand was falling down over these sand cities in real sand waterfalls – almost surreal. Climbing the dunes is not easy – the sand collapsed below your feet and you slide down to almost where you began with ever step. But slowly but surely, puffing and huffing, you get to the top for an amazing panorama of the beach and sea.
