Spain/Castilla La Mancha: Alarcon
Yet another town that takes a high strategic location on top of a promontory on a bend of a river – Alarcon – making for some stunning scenery. The twisting road goes into the town over a bridge and through the gates built into a cliff, while an 8th century castle and fortress guards the entrance. It’s as if it’s taken straight from the Lord of the Rings set. Several awesome attraction inside the cliff top settlement as well – medieval churches and the castle itself which is now a hotel.
