Spain/Valencia: Valencia – Catedral de Valencia
Another amazing medieval European city and another equally amazing medieval cathedral. The spectacular Catedral de Valencia dates back to 1238, was later turned into a mosque under Moors, and then rebuilt into a gothic cathedral. The massive domed interior is stunning with azure rooftop and a lot of gold and precious paintings. One of the Holy Chalices (could even be the Holy Grail) is housed here. Once you are done with exploring the main cathedral, make your way up the steep and twisting and brutally claustrophobic spiral staircase to the very top of the bell tower – the views are as panoramic here as one can imagine and the entire city of Valencia with blue-tiled churches and myriads of old buildings is in front of you.
