Spain/Valencia: Valencia – Torres de Serranos

Torres de Serranos aka Serranos Gate Towers is one of the most recognizable symbols of the Spanish coastal city of Valencia. The gates were built in 1397 nd stand in the main royal road leading both toward Barcelona and the central mountains. Originally, there were 16 gates and a thick wall surrounded the entire old city but now only a couple gates and a few sections of the wall remain. The towers are impressive – huge, fat, and made of a very hard rock. You can climb to the top level for a good panoramic introduction to Valencia.
