Sudan: Jebel Barkal – ITC Nubian Resthouse

When exploring all the amazing archaeological sites of northern Susan, there ain’t many places to stay – either camping in the desert or rather below average guesthouses without basic amenities or comforts. But there is one absolutely stunning place in Karima – Nubian Resthouse – run by the Italian Travel Company. The compound is literally at the foot of Jebel Barkal mountain and on the territory of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The boutique hotel is very elaborately constructed and furnished with traditional Nubian architecture (every room has massive carved wooden doors and dome ceilings) and decor. The main area has open air verandas and large dining room and halls full of traditional Sudanese artifacts and elements. It’s very tastefully arranged and meticulously run. And Jebel Barkal is literally at your doorstep!
