Sudan: Tombos Archaeological Site

Tombos is a sprawling archaeological site in northern sudan with several excavations and statues and inscriptions dating back to the 1400-1000 BC. This was the southernmost settlement of the Ancient Egyptian empire, the border with the Nubian Kingdom. The biggest item is a large statue of a pharaoh king Altanersa, just lying on the ground among many other boulders. Further closer to the Nile River, many stones bear ancient Egyptians hieroglyphs and writing. The place looks atmospheric and beautiful at sunset. Also, just south of Tombos is an ancient Abu Farna Tomb.
