Tanzania: Mikumi NP – Hippo Pool

Besides hordes of all sort of animals at Mikumi National Park, there was a spectacular waterhole filled to the rim with hippos and crocs. The relatively small pond was just jam-packed with hippos, all walloping in mud. Several hippos had very small baby hippos staying very close to mom. Large crocs kept circling around the baby hippos and several times the mother’s had to chase them away. But in general, the two animals don’t view each other as threat and could coexist peacefully (more or less).
