Thailand: Chiang Mai – Yee Peng Lantern Parade
Long on a to-do list for me, I finally made it to the world-famous Loi Krathong/Yee Peng Light Festival (yes, that’s the one when thousand paper lanterns float into the sky). The Yee Peng is a three day culmination sunset of the longer Loi Krathong and, coinciding with the full moon, this is when most activities happen. On the first day of the festival, the famous Yee Peng Parade goes through the main thoroughfare near of the old town of Chiang Mai (around the Old City gate and down Tha Phae Road), where the winners of a yearlong contest, display the best lanterns and everybody wear traditional Thai costumes.
