Thailand: Other outlying temples at Sukhotai

Sukhotai Historical Park is a massive site, all UNESCO World Heritage. While the central part is more or less compact, there are multiple sites mostly north and west with spectacular 13th century ruins. First, there is Wat Chang Lom with a beautiful stupa with 32 elephant statues around the base, most still intact! There is an incredible Wat Si Chum temple where a giant 15 meter high seated Buddha is enclosed behind high walls with only a roof open. Then there is Wat Saphan Hin, where you have to climb up a 200 meter high steep hill in 35c heat for a double Buddha statue and panoramic views of the surrounding plains. There is a also Wat Chedi Si Hong with unique stucco reliefs depicting many-armed deities.
