Togo: Niamtougou Market
Niamt0ugou is another market town in northern Togo, very authentic and colorful. It is one of the largest in the region and we actually happened to get here in the best market day of the week, so it was teaming with sellers and buyers – mostly women selling regional crops, fruits and vegetables, and a lot of dried fish from the Kara river. Tons of interesting stuff here – women in colorful clothing selling palm nuts, weird roots and tubers, grains and beans of all types, cooked stews, lots of very colorful materials and clothing, cookware, knives, and lots and lots of small river fish. The market felt very authentic and traditional, perhaps one of the best in Western Africa.
