Tristan da Cunha: Landing on the Island
We spent a total of three days looking for a possibility to land on Tristan da Cunha. A combination of severe wind and a high swell made it impossible at the main settlement of Edinburg of the Seven Seas – a few test zodiac runs went flying in the air and the waves flooded the ship’s landing dock. We circumnavigated the island two times looking for an alternative but 30 knots wind was seemingly everywhere. Finally, in the afternoon of the last day, we made an attempt of a wet landing on a desolate pebble beach on the back side of the island – and it was a success! Touchdown and an exploration of vertical cliffs and grassy beach followed. Tristan da Cunha – landed! Check!
