Tuamotu/Tikehau: Greater Crested Tern
Here’s another sea bird species that was abundant on the pink sand motu islet – Greater Crested Tern. This is the largest of all the terns and has a large crest of spiky black hair on the head that makes them look like punk rockers. They could grab food thrown to them in mid-air and even snap it from the water surface even before fish and sharks can get to it.
