Tuamotu/Rangiroa: Shark Nursery at Blue Lagoon
One of the unexpected but an absolutely amazing attraction in the Blue Lagoon of the Rangiroa atoll is a shallow area that serves as a nursery for hundreds of black-tipped sharks from 1-2 meter/ 4-6 feet long adolescents to 20-30cm/ under 1 foot baby sharks. There are so many of them that the water is almost boiling, especially when there is food. You can walk among the sharks and even sit in the water surrounded by swirls of fins around you. A totally surreal experience! And while they appear totally harmless and friendly, there has been over 2 dozen attack instances by black-tip sharks globally, mostly resulting in minor wounds given their relatively small size.
