Turkey: Aspendos
Just outside Antalya is one of the most incredible sites of antiquity in Turkey – Aspendos. This ancient Greco-Roman city boasts the beat preserved theater with a seating of 20,000 and 96 m (315 ft) in diameter, built in 155 AD. This ancient city was one of the most important trade centers in the ancient Pamphylia, and the theater probably one of the largest ever built. Spectacular doesn’t even begin to describe this place – leaning against the mountain and have multi-story structure surrounding the semicircular seating auditorium. The stage itself is multi-story with columns and sculpture and engraved ceilings. Truly stunning and you feel dwarfed by the massively mammoth proportions – they surely knew how to built stuff in ancient times!
