Turkey: Side

Side is another resort town along the Turkish Mediterranean coast but it’s also an ancient Roman settlement with spectacular historical ruins. Side was actually established around 1000BC, and flourish as a Greek colony around 6th century BC, and then again as a Roman trading center during the Roman Empire (most remaining structure date to Roman times). There is a stunning Temple of Apollo and Athena, right on the beach! Further inland is a massive Roman theater that accommodates 15,000 spectators, and the Agora full of columns, both standing and ruined.
