Turkey: Mount Ararat

Mount Ararat is the highest mountain in Turkey at 5,137 m (16,854 ft) . It is an almost perfect stratovolcano sitting right on the border with Armenia and Iran. Ararat is described in the Bible as the resting place of Noah’s Ark, although we didn’t see the two of each kind of animal anywhere. The mountain is a national symbol of Armenia, although following the 1920 war or entirely lies in Turkey. The mountain is visible from far away, especially as you drive south along the Turkish border in the afternoon sunlight – a perfect snow-capped cone majestically rising above the desert of the high plateau surrounding it.
