Tuvalu: Teafuafou Islet

If you make it to Tuvalu, you absolutely must get out and explore the Funafuti Atoll and lagoon. It’s about 40 min across the lagoon to the far southeastern part that actually is the Funafuti Marine Conservation area – 6 atoll islands where flora and fauna and the surrounding stunning reef are all protected. The scenery is absolutely surreal – translucent water, yellow sand, green tropical palms – it’s beyond calendar-perfect. We stopped at the Teafuafou islet, takes about 45 minutes to walk around the entire islet to explore the beaches, the inter and outer coral reefs, the channels, the birdlife, and one insane panorama after another.
