UAE/Abu Dhabi: Mezairaa Fort in Liwa Oasis
The emirate of Abu Dhabi is the largest of all the UAE Emirates and has quite a lot of attractions on offer. One of them is the remote Liwa Oasis, near the border with Saudi Arabia and at the edge of the empty Quarter. A small but pretty fort known as Mezairaa Fort. It’s a square fort with four round towers in the corners and thick walls – a classic Arab fort built somewhere around the mid 1950s. It’s built out of mud bricks and wooden palm trunks for floors and ceilings, with gypsum used for decorations. It’s very picturesque and look like something from a fairytale standing at the edge of the desert. And you will have the whole for for yourself – nobody comes here!
