Uruguay: Mercedes
The middle-of-nowhere town of Mercedes in interior Paraguay doesn’t have much going for it besides a pretty central square with a grand cathedral. Attractions aside, Mercedes is the 10th largest city in Uruguay and a major river port and center of agriculture – all around it are endless corn fields and cattle farms with free-ranging quality Uruguayan beef.
