USA/CA: Redwood National Park
Redwood National Park (and the adjoining state parks) protect the iconic redwood trees (Sequoia sempervirens) in their original never-logged groves. Redwood is the tallest tree in the world (but is neither the largest – that title belongs to Sequoiadendron giganteum or sequoia of Southern California – nor the oldest – that title goes to Bristlecone Pine, also in California). Nevertheless, seeing Redwood trees is like nothing you have ever seen in life and it feels like you a Gulliver in the world of Giants. Redwoods are coniferous evergreens that rise to 379 feet (115.5 m) in height and and up to 29.2 feet (8.9 m) in diameter and live to 1500-1800 years! And we also saw a black bear and many Roosevelt elk.
