USA/ID: Mesa Falls
Mesa Falls are locates to the west of Yellowstone and this is where the ancient volcanic caldera used to be before it moved to the present-day hotspot – then known as Henry’s Fork caldera A lot of volcanic features here, like the volcanic tufa rocks over which this river cascades in two spectacular falls – Upper and Lower Mesa Falls. The Upper is the most impressive – roughly 114 feet (35 m) high and 200 feet (61 m) wide, forming a stunning rainbow across the entire pool where the water drops. A staircase and observation platforms take you very close to the falls, enough to get sprayed and wet.
