USA/MA: Salem
The historic port town of Salem was once much more important and wealthy then Boston. Established in 1693, this was perhaps the most important port city in the entire USA history, the primary player in the China Trade. The town has plenty of old historic houses and churches and old merchant buildings. The entire waterfront is preserved as Salem Marine National Historic site – here there is a reconstructed 18th-century commercial sailing vessel Friendship, Derby Warf, and a Lighthouse at the end of it.
