USA/MN: St. Paul – Historic Summit Avenue
Not far from the St Paul Cathedral lies the historic Summit Avenue. The street is home to the largest and longest collection of Victorian buildings in the United States, with 373 of its original 440 historic mansions still standing. Most houses were built from the mid-19th through the early 20th centuries, homes to millionaires who made their fortunes during the industrialization decades. The Summit Avenue begins with the most prominent historic mansion of James J. Hill House, the founder of the Great Northern Railroad (now a museum) and stretches 4.5 miles until it ends at the Mississippi River.
