USA/TN & NC: Great Smoky Mountains NP – Driving Across the Park
Crossing the Great Smoky Mountains National Park from north to south – foggy and covered with clouds. The road winds thought UNESCO-listed national park and its beech forests and a side road climb up to Clingmans Dome, which at ten elevation of 6,643 feet (2,025 m) is the highest mountain in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park as well as the highest point in the state of Tennessee. However, here we were completely in clouds, with visibility of only a couple feet – otherwise spectacular panoramic views were reduced to impenetrable milky fog. At least a couple friendly squirrel made things better.
