USA/TX: Kilgore – World’s Richest Acre

This little plot of land of about 1.2 acre in the town of Kilgore once had the highest concertation of oil wells in the world, pumping 2.5 million barrels of oil. While most derrick towers were dismantled once the oil boom was over, they were later restored in what is now an open air museum of sorts. When the oil was discovered here in 1930s, thousands came to town to drill, leaving in shacks all around the oil field. The boom was rather short-lived, but nonetheless earned the plot the name of the “world’s richest acre”
