USA/UT & AZ: Hiking in Paria Wilderness

One of the most spectacular natural places in the world is on the Utah/Arizona border, called Coyote Buttes aka the Wave. It’s not a national park or even a national monument but strictly protected wilderness with very limited number of people allowed to hike here per day (you need to win an actual lottery). Traversing the sandstone wilderness means no trail and endless Martian landscape of red rocks and ice-cream-cone-like buttes and hills. The soft orange and red rock here is know as Navajo sandstone and it can vary in color and striations and gets easily carved by rain and frost and wind into stunning shapes and color combination. It’s really like Mars! But wait for the actual Wave in the coming post….
