USA/CA: Death Valley NP – Artist’s Drive

Artist’s Drive goes through the area known as Artist’s Palette, a colorful section of the Black Mountains. The range of colors here is stunning given the diversity of the mineral deposits exposed here – orange, green, yellow, brown, pink, blue, turquoise – a true artist’s palette. The colors come from the oxidation of various metals – iron results in red and yellow, silica crystals produce green, and manganese makes the earth purple and pink.
