USA/NY: Red Salamander aka Red-Spotted Newt
Red-spotted newt is a salamander endemic to the state of New York in the USA. These bizarre looking animals are born in water with gills (like fish), but eventually develop lunch and come out on dry land, also turning bright red. They are poisonous and the coloration seems to be a warning sign of that to would-be predators. When sexually mature, they turn green and return back to the water.
