USA/AZ: Hovenweep National Monument
Hovenweep National Monument protects six groups of ancient Ancestral Puebloan villages in this southeastern corner of Utah. Among the most famous ruins are the circular Hovenweep House and square-walled Hovenweep Castle. The hiking trail loops all around the canyon with the ruins scattered on the edges. And it’s scenic and spectacular (with the background of the Sleeping Indian Mountain), if it wasn’t for the insane 42C heat in the middle of the day.
