Uzbekistan: Bukhara – Exploring Bukhara

Bukhara, one of the key cities on the Silk Route, is over 2 thousand years old and steeped in history. Mosques, madrasahs, fortresses and a large historic city center are all listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The most spectacular part of the the city is the Kalon Mosque and the ensemble of madrasahs around as well as the tall Minaret Kalon. In fact, the city is jam packed with Timurid and earlier era madrasahs and mosques, multi level ancient bazaars still preserving the old trading traditions, and many mausoleums.
