Uzbekistan: Tashkent
Tashkent is the capital of the Uzbekistan, a city of over 2 million. While it was founded as far back as 5th century and was a major stop on the Silk Route, almost no historic attraction remain today. A massive earthquake in 1966 destroyed almost every single building in the city and it was then rebuilt in the dull Soviet 1960-70s style. The few points of interest include the Soviet-era Hotel Uzbekistan, Romanov Palace, Alisher Navoi Opera and Ballet Theater, Amir Timur Museum, Amir Timur Statue, and the massive TV Tower. It’s a pleasant city to walk with a lot of green parks and broad avenues.
