Vietnam: Trang An

Trang An is a UNESCO World Heritage site for the combination of spectacular and otherworldly natural landscapes of limestone karst pinnacles and many caves, all surrounded by water – incredible contrasts. The area is often compared to Halong Bay for similar scenery – limestone pillars dramatically rising above the water – except Trang An is greener and bursting with jungle full of wildlife. Trang An is home to a number of caves with unique formations of stalactites and stalagmites, and religious significance. Additionally, there are many historic temples. Exploring Trang An independently is impossible and everything is very organized – you cue for a boat tour and pick one of the three suggested itineraries. Each includes boating among the limestone formations, passing through long and narrow caves, and visiting temple sights.
