Zambia: Chundukwa River Lodge

Our first lodge in Zambia was Chundukwa River Lodge. Located in a beautiful and quite spot away from the town of Livingstone and right on the water on the shore of Zambezi River, this small but smartly designed and beautifully decored lodge is a fantastic place to explore the mighty river dividing Zambia and Zimbabwe (river cruise in the next post). The bungalows are built on stilts right above the water’s edge and together with the main dining area offer stunning panorama of the river (you can literally have a hippo join you for dinner). It’s a small owner-operated lodge with just a few chalets, but it’s miles away in terms of superior quality compared with some large chains (like the recently redesigned Royal Livingstone Hotel, which is not simply commercial trap with zero character).
