China: Guangzhou – Dafo Temple

Dafo Temple is locates in the heart of the historic old are of Guangzhou and is over 1000 years old. It was founded around 950, and has been destroyed and rebuilt built old times throughout its history. The temple is know as the Grand Buddha Temple and the three massive golden Buddhas sitting inside attest to the name each statue weighs 10 tons and is 6m tall, made of copper and then gilded). Dafo is one of the largest temples in China with multiple buildings rising up rather then wide – these are like skyscrapers of religious Chinese architecture. The main hall with Buddhas is named Mahavira, and you pass several other buildings and courtyards just to get there, accompanied by throngs of religious Chinese.
