China: Xi’an – Giant Wild Goose Pagoda
Giant Wild Goose Pagoda is the symbol of old Xian and dates back to the mind boggling 652 AD during the reign of emperor Tang. The seven story pagoda is 64.5 m/212 ft high and you can actually go up the spiral staircase to the top for panoramic views in four directions. The pagoda looks like a square cone with bells ringing in the wind on the four corners of every story. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is in amazingly good condition for its 1400 years age. An extensive park with various temples surrounds the pagoda.
