Burundi: Kibira National Park

Kibira National Park protects the only primarily Montaigne forest in Burundi at an elevation of over 4000 feet. The biodiversity is phenomenal here – over 650 species of plants, over 100 species of mammals, and over 200 species of birds on relatively small territory of around 400 sq km. Massive trees create multi-level canopy floors. Our three hour hike took us to some super humongous trees, a picturesque waterfall surrounded by blooming forest flowers, and a lot of traces of chimpanzees, although we didn’t get lucky to see any.
