Costa Rica: Arenal Butterfly Conservancy in Castillo
Another must-see place near Arenal is the Butterfly Conservancy, the largest butterfly Reserve in Costa Rica. Six covered pavilions here recreate different Costa Rican habitats with the butterfly species that are common there. There are literally thousands of butterflies fluttering all around you – same species you spot while hiking – but here you can get upclose and personal to photograph. There are brilliant blue morphos butterflies, massive owl butterflies, zebra longwings, small postmans, monarchs, completely transparent glasswing butterflies, and many more. There are around 1500 species of butterflies in Costa Rica.
